Saudi Arabia is named after his family. His own grave has no name.
And he began as a teenage refugee.
He was born Abdulaziz, later known as Ibn Saud. At about 15, he fled with his family when rivals took Riyadh, the city they ruled.
From exile in Kuwait, he tried to win it back. He failed.
With a loan from Kuwait's ruler, about 40 men and 30 rifles, he tried again.
His father urged him to come back. He refused.
By night they crept into Riyadh. At dawn they rushed the enemy governor, who was killed at his own fort.
The city was his. He was about 25.
Preachers he backed turned desert nomads into holy warriors. Town after town would fall to them.
In 1918, a global flu pandemic killed his eldest son, Turki. For the rest of his life, he'd rather be called "father of Turki" than any royal title.
His warriors marched on Mecca, Islam's holiest city. At Taif, on the way, they killed hundreds of people.
Mecca surrendered without a fight, and he became its king.
Then many of his holy warriors turned on him, calling his radio sorcery. He crushed them, with help from British planes.
In 1932, he named his country after his family: Saudi Arabia.
It was also broke. An American company offered gold to search its eastern desert for oil.
No one had ever found oil there. His order: "Put your trust in God, and sign."
6 wells disappointed. The seventh struck oil.
As oil money began to flow, slavery stayed legal as long as he lived.
He died at about 77. As his strict faith required, he lies in a grave marked by a stone with no name.
The next 6 kings were all his sons. Each carried the same words in his name:
son of Abdulaziz.
